WOOD YOU CARE FOR is the contemporary craft studio of woodturner Andreas Krätschmer.
His studio is based in downtown Picton, Prince Edward County.

My approach

In my woodturning, I use locally sourced wood with sometimes unpredictable characteristics. By working with green, living wood the material takes an active part in the creative process and invites the maker to reflect on the life of the material itself.

My practice is rooted in a deep appreciation for the tradition of crafts. the cultural history of artifacts and our human interaction with nature. By celebrating local wood with all its beauty, its flaws, its scars, its fragility, and strength, I hope to deepen our connection with the artifact and the material it is made of.

Imperfections, cracks, warping, and natural impacts, like fire, and signs of human interaction, like tool marks, are deliberately incorporated to create objects that narrate their own past while living on in the cultural context of our homes.

Mon approche

Dans ma pratique du tournage sur bois, j'utilise du bois local recupéré – un bois aux caractéristiques parfois imprévisibles. En travaillant avec du bois vert vivant, le matériau fait partie intégrante du processus de création. Il m'invite à réfléchir à la vie du matériau lui-même.

Ma pratique est ancrée dans le respect de la tradition des métiers d'art de 'histoire culturelle des artefacts ainsi que dans l'interaction entre les Hommes et la Nature. En célébrant le bois local dans toute sa splendeur, en respectant sa beauté, ses défauts, ses cicatrices, sa fragilité et sa force, j'espère approfondir notre lien entre les artefacts et les matériaux qui les composent.

Les imperfections, les fissures, les déformations et les impacts natures tels que le feu, ainsi que les signes d'interaction humaine, tels que les marques d'outils, sont délibérément incorporés pour créer des objets qui racontent leur propre histoire tout en vivant dans le contexte culturel de nos maisons.
